Pertronix model number or source

I'd like to install the Pertronix electronic ignition system on my '78 SIII- I'm sick of changing points...

I put a Pertronix system in my Triumph Spitfire a year or so ago but when I called Pertronix to ask which model to get for the Landie they indicate that they have no specific model for ANY Land Rover.

Both the SIII and the Spitfire have Lucas distributors- should the one that works for the Triumph also work for the SIII?

Does anyone have a model number for the Pertronix (or similar electronic ignitor- Crane Cams?) or have a source to purchase?

Cheers,
Chris Brennan

The distributor is a Lucas 45D4, so whichever will fit that dizzy..... I think it's a LU-142A, but double-check......

(Caveat: your '78 is a bit later than the usual SIII that I deal with, it could be different; the LU-142A should be the one for the early SIII distributor..... )

Pertronix part number

Leslie,

Thank you for the info- I hadn't thought to look under "Rover".

If I'm reading their parts list correctly it seems that I should be ordering the LU-144 rather than the LU142A since my SIII is a '78. I won't hold you to it but is this how you'd read it as well?

Cheers and thanks again for the help.

I concur; I should note, earlier ones were 25D4, the 45D4 was the later Lucas one.... must've been after too many beer last night....

Anyway, you're on the right track now......
