I am looking at buying a 2002 Freelander which of course has the old style nose. Is it possible to swap the nose pieces from the older style to the newer pocket lamps like the 2004's.

Also for those of you with Freelanders how do you like them, I am really excited about purchasing this Rover so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The KV6 equipped Freelanders need an entire nose transplant to fit the 04 headlamps. The non-KV6, all you have to do is cut out a bit of the fascia to fit the bottom curve of teh lamps.
The wiring is different and requires creativity there as well.

The Freelander CAN do "heavy offroad" if you use your head and prepare it properly. No boulder crawling, but they are surprisingly capable.

We round Uwharrie with a couple of Freelanders along - I was really surprised at how well it did in the hands of a decent driver.

It doesn't articulate well, so really likes to "lift its leg" - you just have to expect it to happen and work the traction control appropriately.

exactly- you have to drive them differently from many other rigs, but they do chug right along.

Yes, but I drive a 1.8l-engine, which gave me some trouble.

For example in deep gravel or mud the engine isn't strong enough.

Last weekend I was on an LR-reunion in Italy on 2400meters. Equipped with the roof tent and some camping gear I couldn't start on steep hills...

Wouldn't recommend it.

Personally, seems like it'd be a waste of hard earned money, especially if you plan on taking it off-road; spend it on some good tires to improve your off-road ability! You'd probably do more to the looks to get a bush bar or similar.

Remember, the most recent changes are really just cosmetic and the basic vehicle didn't change

They have started to grow on me, I'm thinking of picking one up as a daily driver to replace my old Infiniti I30. I need something more practical. The Disco costs too much to drive daily!

Even with larger tyres and a lift, my Freelander gets decent MPG- and it's more spritely in traffic. Add to that the fact that it so far has gone anywhere my D1 has, it's got enough offroad ability to be fun. Just don't try to climb big rocks with it.

Don't worry, I keep my off-roading to moderate levels to greatly reduce the risk of damage, I mostly trail ride. I figure it will be a good truck for my girlfriend to use off road whil I drive the Disco as well.
