I just bought a powertank and was looking for some ideas on mounting. I have an SD and will be mounting on the left side cubby area. I don't know if anyone has the new aluminum bracket from EE but that's what I will be securing it with. I got some helpful pics from Ho, but the more the merrier.

how big is the bottle, Steve?

a 20-lb bottle, when full, weighs about 46lb. I used the steel bracket from the welding supply store to keep if from flying around - but now I try to keep it home, and only take the 5-lb bottle.

It's a 15lb. I'm sure I'm going to have to take the panel off by the rear window and weld up something to securly reinforce the mounting bracket. I'm just wondering if anybody documented their setup.

I keep my 15lb tank in the truck at all times. I bolted in a piece of 3/4 inch plywood covered with carpeting to the right 3rd row seat area (or cubby box area). To this I screwed in the powertank mount. It's very very strong, no rattling, no movement or shaking. Email me if you want some pics of the mount.

did you bolt it to the nuts that were to hold the jumpseat in or what did you bolt it too. I was thinking about doings this when i get a power tank hopefully in the not too distant future.

Nick,
I did bolt it to where the jump seats attach. I also drilled some holes in various places on the wood and used self tapping screws to attach it to the panneling.

Thanks Marc

FYI, if you can find an air tank from a EAS Range Rover to Coil conversion, they fit pretty well on the drivers frame rail. Here's a pic of the tank, and the compressor from same conversion sits in the engine bay.

But Peter you need to find something to hold the other 200 lbs of junk down in the back.. LOL

hey steve,

i can't tell from your photo, did you cut out the 10" long half round bump on the inside of you cubby to get the bracket to fit flush with the back of the mount?

Sure did. I was going to weld up a bracket for it but after pulling off the trim, I thought that it would be a waste of time. I decided to do this because without the tank in the truck, I could get the cover for the cubby back on. I used the 8 holes in the bracket to mount it right to the inside body panel. I started using riv nuts but the ones I had didn't work very well with the sheet metal. My buddy was able to stick his arm behind the fender to get some nuts and washers on for me. It's not going anywhere, but if it does look like it won't hold well, I will make a backing plate with 8 nuts welded on to go behind the sheet metal.

Good work Steve, looks really clean.

Hey Jamil, great photos. Did you sell your rack? I didn't notice it on some of the "after" pictures.

I think I posted these pictures previously, before the site went down... here they are again. This setup was extremely straightforward -- the bracket that Powertank sells has a nice flat back and will bolt perfectly into the jumpseat nuts. No need for any additional holes in the Rover.

I don't have a real good picture of the actual bracket without all of the other crap in the way -- will try and take one of that later today.
