I've read that you should only use Texaco MTF, but i spoke to the mechanics at the local dealership and they reccomended Motorcraft Type F. My box has got ~130k on it right now.

What do you guys think is the best fluid, especially for easing wear on the synchro's and, cold starting? Anyone here use Redline??

Is Type F auto trans fluid ? if it is don't use it and tell Your local LR dealer to read their tech updates. LR has not used ATF in 380s since 97. All Australian dealers use the factory oil which is Caltex MTF 94 and is packaged here in Oz as Landrover 5 Speed oil. The spec is 75/80 gl4 MTF. Oz dealers use this in all 5 speeds back to mid 80's. There are heaps of others on the market here but the Caltex is the factory fill for 2004 R380's.

They tend to wear the syncros and the input shaft gear as well as layshaft front gear when run on ATF this is why LR changed the spec in the late 90's. The ATF was just a carry over from the the 80's when they used it in LT77 boxes and there was really no thin MTF extreame pressure oils available. Even mid 80's Rangies get run on MTF in Australia now, all new R380s since late 97 till today have left the factory with MTF in them.

I went to Redline's webpage. I am going to have to order the stuff. They have many different types of what they call Gear Oils and Differential Fluids. Can anyone please tell me the specific type Gear oil that is best? The web site has about 6 or 7 that are all very similar and do not specifically say MTF.
