Hey guys,

I can't open my rear door on the disco. Tried from inside and out...it seems to be jammed. Any tips on how to open it? Do I need to take the interior door panel off, or take the whole door off completely?

Most likely rust is jamming the door handle. You pop off the Land Rover oval badge and move the handle with your hand. Happens to me a few times a year. Just spray some lube on it and you should be good to go. If that does not work you may a more serious problem.

I have something similar happen to me quite frequently---the door handle feels mushy, and won't engage the latch.

I just use the key to pop the latch back into place (the latch being the thing you pull with your fingers under the plastic door handle box).

lol, I don't think my lingo is very clear here... Oh well.

Sounds like the linkage has come loose if the lube advice doesn't work. You will need to get the door open in order to remove the rear sub woofer and panel to re- connect the linkage. The linkage has a little 90 degree elbow that goes into a plastic holder and tends to work itself out. After several occurences I JB Welded it together.

Good Luck!

rear door on my D1 jammed a while back. The actual catch mechanism (not the hand-latch) didn't close right and it was stuck tight. A swift kick from inside the vehicle finally broke it free, now it works fine.

It could also be that the little coil spring that hold it locked or unlocked has broken. You can take the whole assembly out and move the spring from the child saftey switch over to replace the spring that broke. You dont really need one on the child saftey switch. I did this and I can now open the rear door without haveing to hold it unlocked with the key.

I had the rear door stick on my 97 D1 recently and after dis-assembling the linkages and not finding anything amiss, I just sprayed the latch on the edge of the door with PB Blaster and it's all better. Seems like someone must have lubed the latch with some gunky crap that solidi9fied over time.

Anyway PB Blaster rules. And if I had tried that first I wouldn't have had to disassemble the door.
