I need to removed and replace some of the galvanized strips on the Series' tub. Has anyone ever removed/replaced the crush rivets used to hold on the galvanized strips on the tub? If so, what is the best way to do this? Also, where can you find those original style rivets? Any specials tools needed?

Thanks.

I've had good luck knocking the heads off with a sharp cold chisel.
I had a bunch of OEM rivets from I don't remember where, but I've also seen rund head rivets at McMaster-Carr.

Ditto on McMaster-Carr......

I used a 5-lb hammer and a sharpened screwdriver. Don't knock the heads off on the aluminum side, make sure that you cut the heads off of the steel side, so you won't gouge the panels. A lot of the rivets will come on out, but some, you'll have to use a punch and drive the shafts out of 'em.

You could use all pop-rivets.... while some spots have to have pops just because you can't get to the opposing side, earlier trucks did use normal rivets.... later trucks used mostly pops, instead, though, so don't think that you "have" to use normal rivets (unless you're wanting to really do it back to original). You'll have to have a pop rivet gun anyway, so, you could do all pops, but... If you do use normal rivets in addition to pop rivets, to do 'em well you'll need a buck of some sort, and a drive tool in a air-hammer... I would not recommend trying to do 'em w/o an air compressor.... (but as w/ anything Rover, you could if you really wanted....)

Good luck...

Google British Fastners. I think there is a place on the east coast that has the exact rivets for rovers.

Nope. I think it's Britishfastners.com or something like that.

Another source for dome head rivets is Jay-cee Sales & Rivet Inc., along with Master-Carr, and Big Flats.

Charlotte might be a bit of a step coming down from Raleigh in a rover, But have all the tools for setting rivets if have the notion to drive down to reset them one day. Just finished off reinstalling all the rivets in the bonnet and is defiantly a 2 man operation.

On a side note....Master-Carr also has the closed-end blind rivets like what is used on series cars.
