We got an invitation in the mail for a Range Rover promotional event in Leesburg at Morven Park...so we went!

Got to drive a 2004 HSE on and off road, with a LR driving instructor; had some great gourmet food; watched presentations from Town and Country, and Smith and Hawken; and got some neat gifts! It was a really nice time and the best part was driving!

We DID see the new LR3...sat in it, but couldn't drive it. If the mechanics are anything like the new RR, it's going to be amazing, although a far cry from the Rovers of the past. The interior is amazing, comfortable and even spacious, but the exterior still lacks a bit of style for my tastes.

Neither of these beasts will ever replace my DI, but I have to admit they are incredible machines. If I had $70K in cash, I would have bought the RR on the spot, but would not enjoy driving it off pavement as much as our DI or RRC. The fun is gone. The vehicle does most of the work. while you point and shoot. You could drive the Queen to the far ends of the backcountry in this thing in absolute comfort. The conveniences and amenities are never-ending and it's just gorgeous. Not to mention QUIET!

They had an 04 Freelander there as well and I seriously think that will be our next Rover, just for a road car with occasional bouts in the snow and mud.

So, it was worth the time and effort of driving 2.5 hours up and back. I'd still love to work for LRNA, sporting a new jacket with "LR Driving Instructor" embroidered on the chest....but the vehicles that we know and love are looking like prehistoric relics, mere skeletons of the new, evolved creatures soon to grace our roads and fields.
