I have a D1 so I'm not much help, but on the D1 there is no way to adjust the heat. When I first turn it on it gets pretty warm before leveling off to a more comfortable temperature.

Grab a towel or coat to sit on, to try and preserve the "assets" :D

i thought i read somewhere that A lot of the D1's with the leather power seats already have the heating elements and wiring harnesses installed in them regardless, and if yo uhave the heatedf seat option then the controls are installed. and if you dont have the controls then the heating elements are still there but not utilized.

is this a myth? or is it true? could i just get my hands on some controls and hoook them up? adn then i ould have the ability to warm my ass? or is this false i will be left with a cold hiney?

This true for the D2. Not sure about D1. I did this in my D2. Cost about $70 total for switches and cover plate. It took all of 30 minutes to install. Very nice addition for the cold days. :D

Also, if you don't have the heated seat elements.. they only cost about $100 bucks a seat.. I forgot what site I saw them on, but they had the whole kit on there.

I might do it this winter.. it gets cold in jersey.. and my heat takes about 9 minutes before it kicks in... my commute to work is 13 minutes, so its almost useless.

heat part II

Ok, I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that when the seat heater is on, one shouldn't smell melting foam and then have a little crease in the seat where the foam has burned.. Any hints or suggestions? How tough is it to pull the seat apart and look at the element?

The heated seats don't get very hot in a DII. There may be a problem if it is really THAT hot. I guess no chance you're still in warranty?? The heated seat is supposed to cycle between 2 temperatures--it heats up until it reaches x degrees, then shuts off until it reaches y degrees, then heats up again, etc...

Well, it seems as if mine just keeps on heating until I smell burning foam and turn it off. I suspected that was probably not normal. I will pull it apart this weekend and see if I can figure out what the problem is. It seems to just get super hot in one spot towards the side of the seat (which happens to be the spot where the foam melted)

Yeah, my 2004 seats just get warm... I was really hoping they would be like my Benz which get nice and toasty.. I have a sore back and it helps on log trips.

They get as warm as my friends Z4...

BigRed,

Your's seem a bit extreme... I'm sure it is just some sort of timer that is messed up

Campbell,

Did you need to get the elements for your DII, or were they already installed and you just got the new switches and panel from Atlantic British or such?

Let me know,
