Serpentine Belt ???

Are the serpentine belts for a 3.9 motor the same for the 4.0 motors? The reason I ask is because in the Tech section under parts cross ref. and the numbers I find when I look them up at the parts stores are differnet. Is there that much difference? Hope this is clear enough.

Most parts stores you should be able to get the right one by looking it up by application. NAPA can do this I know, also Pep Boys.
As for the same or not, I don't know.

If I remember correctly the 3.9 does not use a serpentine belt, while the 4.0 does. 3.9 uses individual, i.e. fan belt, steering pump belt, etc.

You remember wrong - 3.9 using serp belt.

depends on what 3.9. i think early 94 build dates had v-belts, while later 94 3.9's and up had serp. i have a 95 3.9 with serp (Oct 94 build date). but my buddy's 94 d90 with 3.9 has v-belts (not sure build date).

but, i think the serp belts might be different between 3.9 and 4.0. i believe, but don't quote me on this, the pulley on the 3.9 alt is either smaller or larger than the 4.0.

We are in Discovery forum, so i somehow assumed we talking Discoveries here. And mine is 94, and its serpentine. I never looked under hood of D-90 so i wouldnt know about that one

yeah, but i believe it is still in effect for early 94 discoveries as well. someone posted once that they had a 94 with v-belts.

3.9 and 4.0 Discos both have serp belts.
But a 3.9 and a 4.0 serp belt are different.

Ahh ... I was basing my comment on what was under the hood of my '94 D90; thanks for the clarification.
