common issues in the 05 for the most part are recalls or warranty related but if you can afford a year newer it wouldn't hurt at all.

I have a 99 DII.... just picked up an 05 LR3 with 18k... all i can say is wow... Havent had her off road yet... but it feels like a Caddy compared to the DII's

totally different car.... and with all the problems i had with my 99DII (airbags to coils, 2 head jobs, 3 amigos, engine lights... just to name a few)

I am totally happy with two things.... that i still have a rover, and how comfortable this lr3 is...

my vote is obviously.... LR3 FTW

My boss is presently dealing with a leaking battery issue that he was originally told would be covered under warranty and now today they are saying they won't. They are blaming a breather hose being crimped and even so, the last time the battery compartment was opened it was by a LR tech who changed the battery and likely crimped the hose. And even though there are a number of reported issues with batteries overheating in LR3's. This LR3 IS still under warranty so LR really doesn't seem to give a damn whether there is a warranty or not. As the dealership it is presently sitting in, undrivable because of battery acid damage, was not where he purchased it, they have plainly said, we made no profit on you so you aren't a top priority. This is really great customer service and today I have to say I am totally embarrassed by LR. So buy a newer LR at your own pearl because who knows if it acts up if they will even have the honor to look after your claim. Boy how the mighty have fallen.

My first Land Rover was a brand new 05 V6 LR3 SE. I always wanted a Rover for the following reasons - A. Off-Road ability B. On road safety C. Room for the entire family and gear D. Brand History and Prestige... My LR3 was a great all rounder. I felt great knowing that it was new and under warranty, so I did not hesitate to pull a few off-road moves with it and that is where I hit a snag and won respect for the vehicle as well. I was wheeling during a Land Rover Dealer sponsored event and busted the air line coupling that controlled the real suspension. I will admit that I was in the wrong for not lowering the suspension from being in extended mode when I was hung up on a stump earlier. So the air pressure to the entire rear suspension was lost while I was in the middle of the woods with a great group of people. I refused to have an attempt to tow the truck and decided that I would drive the Rover out of the woods with only about 1.5 inches of rear ground clearance. I made it out of the woods with quite a few scrapes on the rear diff and dented exhaust pipes, but I made it out and back home (a 15 Mile trip). The dealer that sponsored the event repaired the damaged air line free of charge, even though I clearly abused the truck. Other that the underside trail badges it earned, it was a pleasure to drive until I sold it in 07. I miss it so much that I am planning on getting a V8 this time. I already purchased a 98 D1 in mint shape for my wheeling duties and will use the LR3 as all weather and family adventure fun vehicle that I can also ferry my clients around in. I highly recommend an LR3 be purchased from a dealer with a great reputation for customer service and knowledgeable technical staff.

Thats a dealership issue. We have about 12 dealers around us and some will not help you at all and others will go out of their way to fix whatever.

Example: Land Rover of Newport Beach will not even return your call to schedule a appointment you have to go by there and schedule your appointment to go back just tell them what is wrong. Land Rover of Mission Viejo will have someone waiting in the parking lot for you with coffee and never ask a question, they just fix it. these two dealers are about five minutes drive from each other. Why one is so much better then the other I don't know, because they are owned by the same corp.

Sounds like you just need to pick another dealer.

I have an '01 disco II ACE and bought my wife a '06 LR3 HSE.....

I still drive the '01 as my DD and love it. I agree that the LR3 is a totally different vehicle and better in a lot of cases. It fits the kids better and the 3rd row is excellent. Overall fit and finish is good. I have had small problems (like when my '01 was new) but nothing major. The disco II has it's advantages as well and i personally like the seats, steering wheel and overall view better. THe ACE is hard to beat for handling. the only real gripe i have on the LR3 is lack of low end torque. If a diesel comes out and they have a similar chassis...i would buy it in a heartbeat.
