i recently replaced my rear pinion, seal and now sometimes when on hill and i put it in park the truck will start rolling back. if move the gear selector then back to park it will stop. also if i let the car roll back a bit it clunks into place.

could it be the shifter itself. it is a little loose.

So what type of truck and transmisson are you talking about??
If it is an automatic this is normal especially if you are parked on an incline. the fact that you changed gears has no bearing on what it is going.

How acute is the rollback?

Every Disco will roll back just a tad---sinking back on its own weight before it rests on the gears.

That's why they have the e-brake. :)

Then again, if it's rolling down a hill.. that's another story.

Its going to roll a little beore the parking pawl engages the parking gear. Sometimes those components get damaged and bad things happen. Always use the E brake jsut as a precaution.

i always use the e brake guys......i didnt engage the e brake right away and it seemed that the truck rolled back a little bit further than usual before clunking into place.

im going to re check it on a minor hill...see if it rolls with no e brake and just how far....
