Squeaking in the front. Can't find it.

HI Guys:
98 Disco. Bought it last year. 137k mi. on it. Had to do a lot of work as it was sitting in a barn (supposedly) for a few years. I have replaced the water pump, alternator, PS Pump, belt tensioner. I used a stethoscope at each pulley with the engine running, can't hear anything that sounds like that. The water pump sounds like metal rubbing against the (rubber?) seal, which I assume is because it's new. But no squeak in the stethoscope. The squeak is not a constant long squeak, but is definitely related to engine speed, not any other motion. It is a short squeak that repeats. It will go on for few minutes, and then quiets down so you can barely hear it. If I let it run for a while then shut it off, it will squeak for a shorter period of time and subside again. If I leave it overnight, it takes a couple of minutes to subside. I have no dash lights, no codes. Engine seems to run fine.
A guy I talked to tonight suggested the "Harmonic balancer". I can't even find what a pic of one looks like on any of the parts sites. The closest I get is pics of the front crankshaft pulley. Service manual has no listing for this.

So, if anyone can show a pic of one, or exactly where it is, that would be great. How to get one would be better, and how to replace it, awesome!

Also, any other suggestions that might occur are appreciated!

Thanks!

Your crank pulley is the harmonic balancer. In the old days they use to be two separate components but these days they are one piece. I would pull your serpentine belt and start it for a minute to see if your noise changes. Let us know

I did that a few days ago. No squeaks without the belt. Is there an adjustable belt that I can use to eliminate each pulley?

You're right, I forgot to mention that, but I did replace it almost immediately after I bought the truck. Sorry for the oversight. I also have replaced the tensioner. Essentially, the only things not replaced are the crankshaft pulley and the a/c compressor, however the a/c compressor does not change the squeak with or without the a/c running. I would imagine the extra load when the a/c clutch is engaged would alter it somewhat if that was the source of the noise.

If mine sits for a long time, oil leaks from front seal onto the belt.. So every couple years or so I just get a new belt..

It goes away with no belt, stethoscope is having no hits; I'd start with another belt first.. Otherwise probably idler or alternator
