Hey there - I'm the guy who's dealer offered to trade him an '04 or an '03 lemon... Feel kinda lame posting this when all of you have real problems, but he's got a silver w/black interior or black w/tan int. Worried about that tan taking a beating & looking like ass in no time. Any of you have it? How does it hold up?
Thanks again. Hope some of my good luck carries through the Disco Cosmos to y'all...

lucky bastard...j/k!

I would go with the silver and black interior which I have myself. Both will hold up better over time...black starts to show its scratches and tan will start showing more dirt!

good luck with the replacement discovery!

I have the tan interior and have no complaints to date...
If it were me I would go with the java black with tan. My last truck before my Disco had black leather and it showed wear much worse than tan in my opinion.
Just my two cents...

Eric,
Ain't that the damnedest problem! (and yes, I did say 'damnedest') That black and silver interior looks sweet, but if I had that it would be black, silver, and red clay colored. Depends on what you're going to do with it....if it's going straight into the garage for a winch bumper, OME everything, and a 3" lift....then by all means go with the tan. But if the only wheeling you ever plan on doing is jumping the curb at the mall, then that silver and black is "Real nice, Clark."

Go silver with black interior. My Niagara grey 99 D2 has tons of pinstriping now from the trees and brush. A silver or white vehicle will show very little. I have the tan interior and would trade it for the black in an instant.

try to hold off until a siver w/tan interior comes in.

black is a bear to maintain inside and out. black looks best when it's perfect but it's a pain to keep perfect. i had a black interior in my last car and dust and dirt was very noticeable on it.

silver looks decent with a layer of dust and the piping on the tan interior is very nice.

life's tough.

Tan has held up well for me,also. Many miles of muddy, oozing, missouri mud/clay and it cleans up nice enough to take the wife to dinner. Thank You, LRW.

In case you're keeping count - ditto RE: tan interior. I have it on my 96 and it doesn't show dirt or scratches. Black exterior wont be too bad if you can keep it waxed. That will protect it from permenant scratches, assuming you go wheeling in it.

Just my $.02.

Go with tan

This is of course very subjective, but tan looks sooooooooo much better than plain black, imho. I have black in mine, and it's just too utilitarian... I just drove a loaner with tan interior and it felt like more old Lexus for a day! You also get a nice contrast with your black dash, etc...

Also, if it's that duragrain, then cleanup is a breethe on either color... only problem spots would be the doors with tan fabric inserts. And, black shows dust and dried up dirt a lot more than tan... Soooooooooo, I say go with tan!

Tan in the '95, love it. Been covered with water proof seat covers since 96 and they look nearly brand new.

Get what you want. However, I believe that black exterior paint would be about my last choice.

But hey then you have a black and tan... how appropriate.

Black looks nice if kept spotless, but the tan hides much more. If you're not big on keeping your interior clean, you'll see every bit of dust and dirt with the black interior.

The tan, "Alpaca Beige," on the 2003 and 2004 Discovery is very different than the tan, "Bahama Beige," on 2002 and prior Discovery. The Alpaca is closest to "Lightstone." So, while Bahama Beige holds up great, hides dirt, mud, dust, etc..., the MUCH lighter Alpaca Beige will behave differently. Working at the dealership, I have to say that the Alpaca looks dirty almost instantly-- you will have to clean it with a good leather cleaner a lot. It catches dirt and dyes off your pants easily, too. The black hides a multitude of sins. And don't forget about the Alpaca Beige steering wheel, which is also very difficult to keep clean. Since the carpet is black whether you get Alpaca or Black interior, that will show dirt the same (and yes, the black carpet shows dirt much more than the beige or grey carpets ever did). Also, if you are getting Silver exterior, I would tend toward the black interior, as that is much more popular and the "preferred" color combination by the "designers" (whoever they are-- that's what it says in the ordering guide). I think a Silver/Black car sells much easier than a Silver/Alpaca car.

Just get the waterproof seat covers and worry not about the leather underneath.

tan vs. black = no contest

I'm gonna have to agree with alyssa on this one......Actually tried to get an 04' White ext with Tan int...until I went back to the dealer to make the final decision. The new(2003-04) tan, although gorgeous, is incredibly light in color, almost a cream.....All I could think of was "I'm gonna destroy this thing in a minute". Even the door panels with the suede is super light... My obvious choice became White ext with Black Int.....and I couldn't be happier....true the dust shows...but the stains don't....and its easy to clean...Just something to think about!!
