If it were all electric, I would have zero interest. Electric with a range extender that is gas powered is very interesting to me. However, I bet it wil be an option that makes the price climb.

The video shows a fully kitted model and then says it will start at 60k. I suppose the model they show will the lockers and all the goodies will be 80k plus.

it's 2+ years out so who knows, but it does look pretty cool.

That is cool to see a resurgence of this classic. But the ratio of sheet metal to glass is displeasing to my eye. Agree that electric with dinosaur range extender is an appealing design. Wish Ineos hadn't abandoned the Fusilier. That really caught my interest.

Couldn’t disagree more With VW’s ownership this will make it to market and undercut the competition on price. This isn’t Local Motors or Grenadier. Interested to see what price jump for generator equipped models will be. Think this is a very attractive feature over a traditional EV. This is the space the next Discovery iteration needs to be in imo. Still think the truck is illproportioned (like the Rivian truck)

I almost pulled the trigger on a reservation... I mean, it's $100, refundable. But really, it doesn't do anything more or less than the LR4 does. What I really need is a brand new $20k eGolf. Why can't I lease a new Mini EV for $199/months with 0 down? Psh.

I would never make a financial comparison for what is likely a paid off car against a new car on the basis of saving money on gas. However, new for new, this is intriguing against other SUV's.

Let's say this is within 5k of a simalrly equipped Land Cruiser or GX550 or Bronco on 35's with all the fixins. Reliability concerns aside for a new vehicle, the fact that it has electric AND a range extender is what is doing it for me. I have no interest in an all electric vehicle as it won't meet my needs. But one with a range extender probably will.

I was shopping a used Chevy Volt as a runabout car for the same reason. That one seemed really cool - 110v to charge and pull of the round trip to work each day withy the 50+ mile range, but then you could easily drive it across the country with zero worries about finding a place to plug in, or you dind't have to bother to plug in for 40mpg. If this one gets 200-300 miles in gas only mode with say, high 20's MPG, that is a win. Will have to wait and see.
