I am looking at the Thule railing clamps for putting on the factory rack on the 2003. Does anyone have these installed? I think they are model #415, but I could be wrong.

I would like to know how high above the Land Rover rack these rise so that I can know if I will be able to get into the garage before buying them. I also would like to look at the measurments of the gutter mounted system.

I assume you are talking about the gutter mount system with cross bars. I am running the YAKIMA system. You will need to add a high-rise extension to the standard gutter mount towers. My cross bars rest perfectly on top of the factory roof rails. So, add another 1" to your rail height (for cross bar) and another 4-5 inches for basket height.
I am running 265-75 tires with a 2"ome lift and the rack above and just clear 7'-2"
Hope this helps a little.

The feet that mount to the factory rack puts the load bar about 2 inches above it. The older model is #415, which were replaced by #451. Honestly I liked the look of the of the 415s better and they were cheaper, so I wasn't going to argue. I would add another 5-6 inches of height for ski or bike racks, which is what i use them for. Just fyi, Thule recommends a 50" bar, but it seemed short so I went with the 58" bars(i think those are the measurements) and they overhang 5".

Go with the rain-gutter mounts, i think they are the 953s(need even wider bars), if you are carrying anything longer than a bike or skis because you can only go as long as the factory rack with the 415s, and it isnt that long.

I've had the racks on my car for about 3 weeks and was happy with my decision for my needs. hope that helps :D

I am also hoping to be able to either double up on the gutter mounts, 4 of them, or two of each, or get the full length factory rails installed so that I could use 4 of the rail mounts.

Do either of you have photos? I don't know if the rail mounts will be compatable with rear mounted gutter mounts - i.e. will they be the same height so that my load will be even?

I think I will stick with one or the other - whichever comes up on eBay cheapest and first.

Thanks

I just use the Thule attachments on the stock LR cross bars. Is that what you are talking about or does this actually ad the Thule crossbars to the stock bars?

All of the Thule attachments fit the stock LR bars. I have a Thule surfboard attachment that just clamps right to the square, stock LR bars and it works great. There is a very little amount of play on the clamps, but they are secure and aren't going anywhere. Anyone else try this? I have no need to buy all of the other "adapters" if the stock bars function the same way. You will just get a little more width with the Thule bars.

Just realized you said "2003". I don't know if they are different or not, but I have a 96 with the spring loaded prongs on the end of the bars.
