my parents have an LR3. 14k on the clock. rear tires need replacing immediatly. the tires have worn very irregularly. the inside ( closest to the truck) of the tires are bald. and you cant even notice it just looking at the truck. they've had the rear air shocks replaced already, but never rode around with the ass end sagging. what is causing this? has this happened to anyone else? dealer says something about alignment, does the rear need aligning too? oh, and the tires were never rotated. but still, 14k and bald onthe inner part of tire?

any help is appreciated.:ack:

I just turned 15K, rotated at 7500. No detectable uneven wear.

One of our club members is a rover tech he mentioned there is a problem with the rear alignment on LR3s getting knocked out of position because of the way they are handled for shipping.(Strapped down instead of riding on the suspension)
The dealer was issued a bulletin to realign and rotate tires more frequently. He cautioned our LR3 owners to keep a close eye on the rear tires, and to push hard for a replace under warranty if the wear was uneven.
Hope this is helpful to you.

You're not the first, Ive seen this problem on someother boards. And if memory serves, LR doesn't recommend rotating on the LR3.

The dealer did my rotation at 7500K. I asked about it, they said they recommend it, they did it.

Maybe they're doing it out of historical habit??? Maybe they rotate them in a different pattern than other vehicles???

I remembered the no rotate thing because when I first saw this problem on a board the poster was in a Goodyear Vs Land Rover battle... For the exact same tire wear prob.

The little pamphlet GY leaves you in the glovebox sez to rotate for their GY warranty but LR maintenance schedule, also in the glove box, does not address rotation. And there is always the debate about rotating tires on a full time 4x4 (don't).. esp. with all the electronics on the D3... you want all 4 turning the same speed. I ask my svc dept about this and they said they DON'T recommend rotating.

Bohn- Did ya pay for the rotation? Mine has been in for scheduled stuff 4 times and haven't cost me a dime.

d2dave- split the cost of some tires with LR, this is a known issue but your folks did get 14k out of them.

Just got back from the dealer. I have 9500 miles on my 2005 LR3HSE7. After reading this board and Edmunds.com board. I noticed that all four tires inside edges wear wearing faster than other parts of the tires. I copied every message from edmunds and took it to my dealer, and told him the alignment must be out and please check. He came back and said they will replace all 4 tires under warranty but I will have to pay 300 bucks becuase my tires already have 9500 miles on them. I decided not to fight the $300 dollar charge, but did ask to replace the goodyears with Michelin Synchrones (spelled that wrong), and he is researching. If I were you I would do the same thing. Go to edmunds and read all the message threads then print them out and make your case...Good Luck..I do love my LR3 and have a great relationship with the service team at my Land Rover dealership.

thanks for the replies. they got two new tires on the rear, goodyears again:mad: they had to pay 400 bux for them. they got a small break. the rear was re-aligned, so we'll see what happens. if it was mine, i would demand new tires under warrenty, but dad IS writing letters to LRNA and land rover of birmingham. damn land rovers, but we love em.:banghead:

the insides of my goodyears are very worn out. I have around 17.1k on them and soon getting rid of the tires for better ones. I think one of the reasons the tires wear out unevenly is because of the suspensions toe-in, causing more wear on the insides. but i could be wrong

Wear after 17k on all four is normal for the Goodyears.

Having major wear on only the two rear tires is something completely different.
