I haven't been down there in a while but, the last thing that I heard was that the Forest Service finally blocked off parts of Kephert. Not sure when the last time you have been down there was but, Old Long Run is closed as well. Also, the locals are getting fed up with the folks messing up Dry River ( trash, dumping, beer cans ) and are complainging to the Forest Service about it. Other then that every thing else is still the same as far as I know....

There is better if you have an in at the Cove Campground.. I have heard from people that you can wheel there even if there isn't a big dogs event and have heard from others that you can't.. I haven't actually tried to find out which is correct yet for myself but, there are some nice trails back in there. There are some other trails a little further then Harrisonburg that I hear are pretty good but, I can't remember the name of them and haven't gotten to them yet.. It's not Crabtree or Shoe Creek though..

Crabtree/Shoe Creek Conditions

I've been out to Crabtree/Shoe Creek several times in the past few weeks. Washington and Lee University had Bill Burke give an off-road seminar out there after MAR. I coordinated the event and it was a blast having Bill teach a group of 8 drivers. If anyone is considering taking one of his seminars I would definitely recommend it! Nothing much has changed at Shoe Creek, except that they closed off the hill climb at the first large campground (if you're coming in from the lower entrance). It was eroding too much and pretty much had gotten to the point that you had to do the hill climb to access any of the trails/camping to the left. If anyone ever wants to head out there, Big Levels, or up towards Harrisonburg let me know. E-mail is kronenfeldd@wlu.edu. :D
