I tried to use a BBQ 20lb cylinder with a portable grill (that uses disposible cylinders).

With the bottle barely opened I think it started to heat up but when I opened the valve a little more, it went out.

Why?

Had just this happen to a friend last Saturday evening. He went to change bottles when the first was empty, but the new one just wouldn't work right....

The 'new' style of gas bottles have a float inside designed to cut off gas flow if the thing is turned over. The gov't thinking it's keeping us safe, no doubt.... :banghead: However, if the cylinder is very full, the float will stick closed. Try opening just a little. Once you burn off a little gas, it should work just fine.

Cheers

Theres a bleed screw on the side of the valve assembly
I store a tank on its side untill i need it , or jostling or bouncing the tank will
causes float to close off valve.

with tank upright loosen bleed screw and bleed a bit of gas out.
the float will settle back down and u will have good gas.
