My fan clutch is locked up when engine is off, and I have a slight fan wobble at idle/low rpms. Is this a sign that it's time for a new one?

Thanks,
Jen

Your fan should move by hand, if not the hub is probably gone. If it is bad get it replaced before it lets go.

Certainly. You should be able to turn the fan by hand when the engine is still cold. If you can do this then to test the clutch you should hold the fan by hand and let somebody start the engine. While the engine gets warmer you should feel the resistance increasing in the fan against your hold and it wanting to start turning. At this point do not continue to hold the fan, let it go.

Gotta be bad then

Mine is nice and locked when cold. It immediately starts spinning full speed when engine is on. So I should get a viscous fan clutch and probably do a new fan for shits and giggles while it's all out?

Peace!

You don't need a new fan if none of the blades are broken, only a clutch and it's not a cheap part.

I can't seem to locate the info, but I have it somewhere. You can buy a Clutch and fan for less than $50 if I recall correctly from just about any auto parts store.... I have to find this info...

I will try to find it later.

Here is the pic of the Fan I was thinking about, but if I recall correctly someone told me that this one spins the wrong way, but is the correct part minus one number on the part number.... It has been too long and I can't seem to find the info... I think I have rebuilt my computer since then.

Mods needed to use aftermarket fan clutch

Hey Joey, thanks for the info. Do you remember if there were any mods needed to make the aftermarket fan clutch work?

Thanks in advance,
Jen

Not that I recall, just make sure you get the one that goes the same direction as the current one in the Disco. I just seem to remember that someone told me that this one I have a pic of spins the wrong way, but fits other than that. Yes they do make the right one, and yes I did have the right pic, but lost during a HD crash.
