Wierd Gas Fill-up Problem

I filled up the Rover this evening and could only put 16.13 gallons in. I've read on here that you have to do funny things with the pump or go very slowly to fill up some of these trucks; I did both. It took me about 10 minutes to put in the 16 gallons. I got to thinking about it and remembered that my wife mentioned that she could not fill it up all the way at the last fill up either.

When I got back to work I looked under my ride and saw this hose/tube hanging down on the underside of where the filler neck is. I've looked on my CD and the best I can come up with is that it either the pressure sensor breather pipe or the vent line hose. I'm assuming that since this is no longer connected the tank is not venting and the backed up pressure is not allowing me to fill up.

Are my thoughts on this correct or am I way off track? I'd love to fix this and do my radius arm bushings this long weekend. Also, how in the hell can I reattach this thing? I looked and it's really tight up in that filler neck area.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

What year?

I have a '98 and the last time I went to the dealer to replace the exhaust manifold(recall), they also fixed a fuel filler neck as part of another recall.
They asked me if I had a hard time filling the tank. I recall having a hell a time filling at some stations, but I just thought it was their pumps or nozzles.

According to my copy of the work performed, land rover has listed it as...
"B217 Install split ring on filler neck"

Hope it helps you

It usually happens when you are on E and need to put 21 gallons. I usually put three or four dollars in and drive off. By the time you hit the next station you can fill up fine. 97 DI

Mines does it when I'm running on fumes and late to work

I have a '98 DI, like you, Brian. How did you find out about those recalls? I'd like to see if my truck can be fixed free!

According to land rover the passenger side exhaust mainfold is prone to crack.
Mine was cracked and they told me it was covered under a recall.
I'll have to check my documents later on to get you the exact service repair.

I know I didn't pay a dime and was quite shocked about the recall, I had not received any notification at all. I just called up to inquire about getting the exhaust manifold and doing the replacement myself. That is when they told me about the recall.

I post later when I can get to the paperwork.

I used Plaza motors, the only dealer for hundreds of miles.
I must say I was pleased with the whole recall ordeal.
I dropped my Disco off, the gave me a loaner, and I picked mine back up the next day.

What I waqsn't happy about is the fact that I had to call to find out about the recall. It looks like others are finding this out for the first time. I have own this vehicle the entire time, so Land Rover has had me on record the entire time. It would be different if I had purchased a used Disco and failed to update the transfer of ownership card. Did you inform Land Rover that the vehicle now belongs to you?

I bought it while it still had some warrenty left and they have done warrenty work for me but they did not fix the gas fill or mention the recall. Does any one know if the recall is all of the D II I have a 2000

Have an '02 DII and have been having the same problem with fill ups. My wife went to the dealer today and asked if there was a recall or service bulletin for this problem. They asked her how she found out and she told them that her husband read it on the internet so it must be so. They were definetly aware of the problem, and asked if the vehicle was purchased at this dealership and has less than 50,000 miles on it. So it sounds like a fix under warranty and not a recall. Its scheduled to be done on Wednesday and is supposed to take a 1/2 day + to complete. I'll let you know what I find out...

I got the DII back from the dealer today. They Replaced the filler neck and trickle valve under warranty. I guess its fixed?? I went to go fill up afterwards and now it shuts off at about every 10 gallons instead of every 4. Service guy explained that LR has been trying to solve this problem for years, I guess their "fix" isn't so great either. I'll let you know how it works next time I fill; I'll definitely have lot's of opportunities to test it out in the near future....

My 98 D1 did that all the time and I had the filler neck fixed under the recall. It still does it though just not as often. But, it did help and it was a recall ( even sent the notice to my house in the mail and every thing ).. Of course I'm still awaiting the gas tank recall that some one was talking about..
