While greasing up the pig, and checking her out for MAR, I noticed that the clutch lever on my Warn winch only moves about an 8th of a turn, and doesn't free up the spool. Someone told me that I need to pull the end off of it to check for rust. Does anyone know if this is a big deal? I am trying to have the pig ready to roll by the a.m.

Big Red-same thing happened to me. I bought mine from a dealer with winch installed and I am guessing it sat int dealers lot exposed for a loooong time.

Heres what I did:
Took out the clutch lever using allen wrench for side retaining screw
WD-40'd the piss out of the inside
Used a punch and hammer (very light tapping so as not to mar the metal) to free the mechanism.
Reinstalled clutch lever and it has been working fine ever since. I use it fairly regularly to pull my buddy out of whatever he has managed to get himself stuck in lately. :D

BTW it is a Warn XD9000i

Rob.. Same winch and deal here. Did you just take out the one allen bolt beside the lever? (not the 10 other allen bolts?) Did you just stick the punch in through the allen bolt hole, or through where the lever goes??
