Hey guys,

The classy guy I am, I'm taking the lady for a wine tour N. of San Francisco this weekend. Instead of staying at a fancy b&b, we'll be camping. I've heard Calistoga has a pretty good campground but wanted some more opinions. I haven't been able to find much with my own research.

We'll drink during the day and then setup camp before dark. I'd prefer something towards the coast but not sure how many wineries/campgrounds are out that way.

Thanks again,
Brendon

I'm unaware of any nice camping right in Calistoga. There may be some crappy KOA-type parks.

There is nice camping at the Bothe-Napa Valley State Park which is about halfway between Saint Helena and Calistoga on Highway 29.

However, good luck with that as I'm guessing you need reservations quite a ways in advance.

Check for locations along the Russian River. Incredibly beautiful. Tons of micro breweries in Sonoma as well as wineries. But if you do that area, a must is the Korbel tour.

Yeah, prolly will need a reservation for the KOA/RV stuff.

Thanks Roverdude, I'll check out that option.

Thanks guys. We had a great weekend and spent our time between Calistoga and St. Helena.

We got lucky and were able to find a spot at the Bothe Napa State Park. Apparently they reserve the disabled camp ground until about 5pm. If no one calls in to use, it's fair game!

When up there, I do recommend the Martini House in St. Helena's. Mushrooms are their speciality and the mushroom soup is amazing.
