Wiper Problem

I am having a problem with my windshield wipers on my 2000 Disco II; they work fine except for the timing. If I put them on ntermittent they stop half way on the windshield, kind of all over the place. If I put them on full they work great until I go to shut them off then I have to play with them to get them to shut off in the down position.

Any ideas?

They rear wiper works perfect, it is just the fronts.

Thanks in advance,

John

I had this same problem and thought it was the switch. The switch is on the motor itself, so if that is your problem then you have to buy the entire unit. In my case in turned out to be that the mechanism was yammed somehow. What I did was remove the black plastic trim piece that runs on the bottom of the windshield. Once this is removed you'll have access to a panel on the drivers side that holds the motor and mechanisn for the wipers. Now all I did was loosen the bolts that attach to the mechanism. After testing the wipers I re-tighten everything. It works perfectly and no money spent, just a little of your time. This might work for you.

This is quit a common failure.
You?re right it?s the park unit that?s attached to the wiper motor.
The only other thing it could be is the Multifunction switch, which on a Disco 1 is part of the operation of the wipers amongst other things. However if you were having problems with lights as well which I guess your not. You can rule the multifunction switch out and stay with the motor. The sad thing is the whole lot has to be replaced you cant just get the motor. You have to buy the motor the gears and the mechanics $200.
Thank you rover.

had the same problem on my D1.... do what abraham did first, it worked for me - and like he said "no $$ spent". somehow the mechanism under the cowl trim piece got fuct up. it may take alittle time to get it all adjusted right (took me about 20 minutes), but it is worth trying before you go blow $$ on a part you may not even need. good luck. :D

if you do end up having to replace the motor set up b/c you have a bad sensor, check out ebay for the motor itself before you go drop over $250 on the whole setup. i was cruisin' the bay and think that i saw one on there... worth a shot.
