Would anyone be interested in 17" beadlock wheels?

Working with a wheel manufacturer to produce a set of 17" beadlock wheels for a SEMA LR3 we're doing. I'm curious if any others would be interested. The thought would be a simple black bell steel wheel with a outer lock.

I know LR3's might not go into harry enough terrain to warrant locks for low pressure driving but I am thinking about easy tire changes and the ability to carry two tires off the rim and the weight difference should you be taking a nice long trip.

Thoughts?

Not sure what you mean....? Standard locks only lock on one side (outer) and the tire comes off such. If your talking about just breaking the tire off setting it under the truck and using a hi-lift on the trail while pushing down on the sidewall breaks it....

To my knowledge no one is making beadlock wheels for the LR3 pattern yet. Am I incorrect?

So right now you have, what, 5 aluminum wheels?

And you're going to replace your 5 aluminum wheels with 4 steel wheels with beadlocks?

Just curious, but how much does a aluminum wheel weigh? How much does a beadlock wheel, with 32 steel bolts, weight?

I think you're fucking up here. Steel wheels on a LR3? Beadlocks? Really?

Why would you be so concerned about the lines of your rood rack, yet add beadlock wheels to your LR3? Beadlocks are ugly. Beadlocks do not looks as if they belong on a truck. Beadlock are purpose built. That's why people with fake beadlocks are the ultimate poser.

I don't think you're going to save much weight with the steel wheels. I think you'd be better off with the Staun internal lock rings. But, FWIW, Marsh Racing can probably make the steel wheels you're seeking.

I love your posts D...

No. Right now I don't have any wheels. I don't even own an LR3. Working on a rig for SEMA this year is all...exploring options.

Can't say for sure on the exact weight but I can tell you the beadlocks on my rig weigh less than the heavy aluminum wheels I've muddled with on some rigs. That's not my concern though.

As for beadlocks being ugly I don't agree with you. There is nothing more beautiful that a set of stainless bolts rotating with the tire. ;) And you have the functionality and self manageability of changing tires on the trail.

I don't wheel with aluminum wheels personally. They get damaged too easily and you cannot repair them on the trail where-in you can heat and beat even the worst steel wheel back into place enough to roll home. (In most cases.)

Appreciate your feedback though bro. I'll take it into consideration.

LOL. This sound as if it's going to turn into a Kevin Willey train wreck.

I think you're full of shit, "bro". Steel wheels weigh less than aluminum? I find that hard to believe.

But weight is not your concern??? Then why did you say that in the above post?

Yeah, the poser in you is coming out. SS bolts? Haha.

And you have the functionality and self manageability of changing tires on the trail.

That is true. But I thought this was a "SEMA Rig". Since when do you have to change tires at SEMA?

I'll agree with you that Steel wheels are tougher. But where will you be taking this badass LR3 that this will actually pose a problem? The only place I've seen wheels get really damaged is in rocks. Are you building a LR3 Rock Crawler?

Appreciate your feedback though bro. I'll take it into consideration.

I think you've missed the boat. I don't think the LR3 is for you. In fact, stay away from Rovers all together.

I know there are 17" steel wheels out there for the LR3, but haven't heard about beadlocks. Don't think I'd find use for them myself, but I wouldn't mind having a set of the steel wheels for off-roading & competition.

I don't do PM's. If you have something to say, post it here.

D,

Hey bud, I have no problem with you what so ever. I'm not really sure what warrants the posts but I guess that's all there is so...I'll leave it at that.

From what I've heard your actually a pretty cool guy. Not sure where all the hostility is coming from.

Take it easy,

Basically oldsurferdude, as you already know Its the wild west on D-web. If you ask for constructive criticism you will get it....and not always in the most polite manner. Its nothing personal. So if you have something to bring to show and tell, don't be surprised if somebody lights it on fire. Good luck and keep us posted on the LR3 rack.

J, are you aware that 17" wheels won't fit with V8 brakes and you'd need to switch to the smaller V6 brakes. I'd guess that would be a turn-off for most.

Uh, I know the steelies from AB weigh more than our stock disco 16 and 18 rims....I doubt the 18" lr3 rims weigh more than a few lbs more. Just get some 19" rft's and call it a day.

It's really a very simple solution:

KMC will make you a set of Enduro bead-locks for any bolt pattern you can think of for $310, just takes a couple weeks lead time. Most other aluminum bead-locks will cost more, but almost all the manufacturers will do custom lug patterns for no extra charge. Any number of wheel makers will do a Hummer style double bead-lock for the LR3 in a bunch of different rim sizes. I can't see the use on an LR3, but it's not like it's impossible for somebody to just do it if they felt the urge.
