In no way do I mean to sound negative but what would it take to speed up this BBS? Is it a technical or monthly money issue? What would it take to improve it? I am on a DSL connection and it's much slower than others I have visited. |

Chris - I am a bit confused about that link and how it addresses the question Tim asked. The BBS system can be quite zippy at times. It is usually caused by site traffic that slows it down. The more people browsing, the slower it gets. This is mostly due to the "ghetto" (as far as technology today goes) file storage method. CGI isn't exactly what it used to be. If you compare the speed of this site to another BBS from lets say 5 or 6 years ago, I think you would find that it would be quite comparable under similar traffic. You also have to contend with network congestion. I've noticed that at times it isn't necessarily the output stream from the server that is slow but routing between my location and this server. There are several things that could be done to improve response time but most either cost money or considerable effort. |

"chris put that link there because we have already had this discussion before... " Brian why are you being so redundant about an obvious thing? |

I must have inhaled too much carb cleaner last night but I would like to point out again (and read the thread that link goes to first) that it doesn't address Tim's question. The thread was about image sizes and the extra bandwidth that would be used. Tim asked about the overall speed of the web site. Since three of you are now agreeing that the link refers to how fast a page can draw I must be missing something. If one of you has a few moments, please explain this to me. |
