What performance issues do I have to be concerned about from 29" to 32" tires? I have a 99 DII. I'm more concerned with acceleration, highway speeds, and traveling in the mountains. If this has been discussed ad infinitum, please direct me to that conversation.

Thanks-

Hello John, although I have a D1 I'll let ya know that you are going to notice some difference. I went from the stock 29" Michs to 32" Mud Terrain. I travel extensively with my work, and have put around 10k on the 32's. Acceleration is definitely less but not like we are running anyone of the line anyhow. At highway speeds it is a little different from before as if you have the cruise control on and come up to a hill it will have to downshift to 3rd to pull the hill. (keep in mind I have a D1 with 121k on the clock) My gas mileage went from 17 on the highway to 14.5 on average. And on your last note there, I travel on I40 between TN and NC through the mountains at least once a week. No difference that I can tell whatsoever in that aspect. I do have the OME HD shocks/springs though and that greatly improved my handling, so I actually feel more stable through the turns than I did with it all stock. Hope that helps.. Peace.. Roberto

SUP ROBERT WHEN YOU COMIN TO AUBURN

John
i have 32x11.50 swampers
i get about 10 mpg , Robert has the right idea goin. I can't remember the last time i raced anyone , hmmm. But acceleration goes down but not that much i don't think or at least recognize
i have a lead foot though and i can remember before as now that i pushed it down and with or without 32's it didn't go anywhere, lol
33's going on for Christmas and thats as big as i can go before i get out of college and make some money to beef up gears and axles and everything

Drop me an email Robert

John, you will notice the difference initially, but you'll soon get used to it. Once installed, keep your transmission in "Sport" mode. After a few tanks of gas, it will learn to shift a little later to compenstate. Your mileage will look like it dropped a ton, but remember, your odometer will be showing fewer miles than you actually travelled because of the new tire's larger circumfrence. It will be about 7%-8% off, so calculate that difference and your mileage isn't as bad as you would think. I'm running 33's on my DII and have no problems.
