After working on in it after work this week, got the install complete. And, it works. There were a few problems (minor, I guess) that came up during the way, but all in all a very nice kit.

I'd recommend it as an alternative to selenoid or D1 linkage installs.

The few gotcha's have to do with it being designed for RH drive, but are easily corrected. I'll provide details if anyone is interested...

I installed this same cdl actuator @6 months ago. I have been very pleased with it. Like you, the kit was easy to install after figuring out that the instructions are for a RH driven vehicle. Enjoy..

Sorry for my ignorance but what's the difference between an actuator and a solenoid. I always thought they were the same thing.

And where did you get the AMV unit? I'd love details of the install. You can either post them here or e-mail me if you prefer.

Thanks,

It's about $300 shipped to US. uses a LR window motor I believe.

It was purchased from AMV in Melbourne, AU. Shipping was faster than I usually get from the East Coast.

It is true, this unit uses a motor to turn the nut. A mag proximity switch is part of the mix, this gives you positive indication (via LED on your switch panel) that the nut has turned to the proper location.

Kit comes with a switch and LED assembly that perfectly replaces either your coin change tray (drivers side) or the ash tray (passenger side). I don't smoke in my cars, so mounted on drivers side and replaced the ash tray with the coin tray.

Here is the short version of the install:

Drop the panel below dash on drivers side. Locate a spot to mount the 2 relays w/harness. Drill a 1/4" through from the left into the coin tray compartment. Run wires from switch assembly through hole over to relays.

Run 3 wires inside dash to passenger side. From under vehicle, remove plug from AC drain, stick a coat hanger up and punch through soft rubber drain hose. Tape wires to coat hanger, pull back down. (Drain will still work, and the water will not affect the plastic wire insulation.)

The rest of this would be MUCH easier with Disco on a lift, but I did it just on jackstands...

Remove front prop shaft connected to center diff. Move it out of the way. This gives you much more room to get hands up over the diff. Remove the three bolts holding CDL plate. Put supplied aluminum plate down over this, put bolts back in. Put CDL nut bushing over nut, place actuator motor assembly over the works, tighten a few of the small allen bolts on bushing over motor gear. Remove motor assembly with bushing. Loctite & tighten the allen screws. Replace motor assembly, bolt to aluminum plate.

Connect wires with supplied plugs, test, done. It took me a week working 1-2 hours after work. On a lift, I think it could be done in 4-5 hours total (maybe less).

There are a few tips I could give that would make the job a lot easier. I am working on some documentation to give to AMV, along with a few changes that should be made for the left hand drive Discos, but nothing drastic.

If interested, I'll post the changes you should make before installing the kit, very easy to do, and will make the job much easier.

It works perfectly, and should last forever. Everything is beautifully made. I called OZ a few times with questions, and they were very helpful.

I'll be glad to answer any specific questions. Knut from Norway has a nice site w/pics on the installation.

It is in Norwegian, but you'll get the idea.

I'll be glad to answer any questions.

I tried to bring up the web page http://www.amv.com.au/SeriesIIDifflock.htm but it wouldn't come up. Can anyone help me with accessing the install info?
