OK, There are some good, pro-looking, solutions to making a CDL lever for the DII on the bulletin board. For those of you who don't have the time or money for those solutions, here's a workable handle that cost me 1 hour of time and $5.24 cents from the hardware store. Items required: 1. One CDL stud bracket with the "rectangle" hole. (If you have to make this, add 30 minutes to the project.) Some vehicles come with it on the transfer case, some don't. If the stud doesn't have the bracket, you will need a washer and a 13mm nut for the stud. 2. A three foot piecce of steel bar (I used a 3 foot piece of flat 12 gauge stock) 3. A universal clevis pin and cotter pin. 4. 13mm box wrench. How to do it: 1. Remove bracket from transfer case if it is installed. 2. Drill hole in 12 gauge stock for clevis pin. I had to drill out the bracket a bit to accomodate the clevis pin. 3. Insert clevis pin through bottom of bracket and 12 gauge stock and pin. My clevis bolt required a few washers to shim it. 4. Attach steel lever/bracket mechanism to stud with bracket facing towards back of vehicle. 5. Run "steel" handle between frame and body out to the right side of the vehicle. 6. Bend steel stock 90 degrees down to make handle and cut to length desired. 7. Use left over steel to fabricate a retaining bracket. I bolted my bracket to the front right body mount. Operation: Push to engage, pull to disengage. Of course, you have to get out of the vehicle to engage it, but it is hidden out of the way and it's easy to remove if yo need to go to the dealer for warranty work. If someone will tell me how to post pictures on the bulletin board, I'll provide pictures and a diagram of the factory bracket with dimensions. |
