I don't care for the way the LR model has to be mounted. Don't like the open design, either. But the greasable a frame joint is cool.

IF I wanted a really cool looking diff protector and wasn't really concerned about whether it worked or not, this might be the way to go. You could probably even get it chrome plated!

Of course, if you actually wanted something that would add protection off road, then that would be another story.

Interesting concept,

Those open areas would be a weak point on obstacles where you could not see the rocks; i.e. Water crossings.

They do look cool in that Mad Max sort of way I have seen the tube style bend in on the covers first hand. These ones are a bit different being there cut from plate.

I looked and I did not see a bolt on one for the Land Rovers. And the one pictured for the DII is not as impressive looking lame actually

I did in fact I did consider a similar design but after beating the shit out of it by driving it over with a fork lift I did not feel that design was as strong as my current one has evolved to. Also that style is not as economical to produce looks like lots of man hours used to clean all the welds

Imagine shipping charges on those from AU for those heavy guards...

As far as mounting Diff-Guards on the DI and RRC, it is fairly easy LR left a large lip. the DII are a bit tougher the lip is not wide enough and it is angled down so no bolt on option there it too a bit more time for me to design and produce...

To Bad LD did not buy Dana center housings you can get really sick with them because of the bolt on option.

If people were willing to weld the covers on I could add a more creative and even stronger product also to incorporate other axel housing protection elements into the design. But face it most of you wont pay 300 for front diff protection and then have to weld it. That being said it will most likely not happen.

FWIW The popular ones out there flattened rater quickly when I tested them against mine

Yes Paul I have the DII's ready but bad timing ill be out of commission for the next 3 to 4 weeks ill try to have some pics to you and the rest who asked for them tomorrow...

lol Dee, when was the last time you exerted several thousand pounds of pressure onto your diff guard? i think its great that youre testing yours like that and im all for overbuilt, but i have never heard of a "normal" style one fail.

and weld on? sure why not! i have more confidence in my welds than in some cheezy grade 5 bolt.

Are you forgetting there 4" body lift that is crazy 3" maybe. I want to see the disco with that the gap between the bumper would be huge

not that I am a big fan of body lifts but you generally purchase or fabricate bumper relocation kits when you do a body lift, this eliminates the gap.

Hmmmmm... Dee, now since you brought in the Mad Max theme, those might look good on my truck :).

I do not agree with Paul on that the open areas being weak. They seem close enough together so that a it would take a real funky looking rock to do any damage.

So, I really don't see any advantage of this Diff guard other than it looking cool. Of course I could spend about 100 bucks less and buy Dee's diff guard and buy 4 bucks worth of spray paint and make it look even cooler :).

IMO...

Getting some diff guards for the "Mad Max 3" truck... If I can get some money :(

Weldkid,

Just wanted to beat the crap out of it so i could see how it would fail. Not sure of the real life loads exerted on a 4.5 K pound Disco slamming 10 to 15 mph into a pointed rock edge im sure there are high numbers displaced there. But the feedback I've recived thus far indicate i've done a good job on them...

As far as faling 1/3 of the ones I've sold have been replacements.

I too like a weld better than bolt on, in the works is a full skid and axel truss for my D1 later this year. If it works out ill sell it..

Oh im not building this because i think im a King of the Rubicon i just like to build things thats my kick...

"They seem close enough together so that a it would take a real funky looking rock to do any damage."

That's exactly what I was thinking :)

Hey Garrett,

You are starting to turn into a fancy lad working on that D2! No, I am not in the office today. :)

just a pipe dream man!! (mmmmmmm. pipe. i like the sound of that) but i just like working on stuff where i can see an improvement that day. and with that OME stuff and new treads on her D2.......boom......it was a nice change from those XPCs. ugh.
but her dad just keeps calling her and asking what she wants for it. he just got a kick ass extended warranty from LR for her.
she will be getting those guards from Dee once he has them ready to go.
he (her dad) has been sending my all his LRE mags too, so that was nice.
