I'm considering buying a D2 and also want the adventure rack. Does anyone know the height of a D2 with rack on stock tires? Or is there web site with specs? My I have a Yakima Mega Warrior on my 88RRC and I have about a 1/2" of clearance getting in my garage. Also, is there another source for Adventure racks other than dealers. My local dealer quoted me $1100. Thanks! |

Hi John, If your RRC and the Maga Warrior have only 1/2" of clearance, then you can forget about the garage for a D2 with an adventure rack. I am not sure of the actual height but it's up there. As for Adventure Rack sources, they are limited. I called 5 dealers in the Philly area and they were all about the same ranging from $1000 - $1200 and then there are the dealers that will charge you $60 - $80 to install. Now, there are many other folks out there with Rover accessory business's and will beat a dealer price. But once you factor in shipping, it comes out the same. I placed a "wanted" ad in the DWEB classifed section and instantly recieved email from a member of this board. This member was nice enough to sell me a rack for $850 and even help me install it. Good Luck, Paul '00 Pig |

Thanks for the feedback. Just looking at photos, they do look tall, I can modify my garage entrance by a few inches... Is there a web site with vehicle specs. I looked on Landrover.com, lots of pretty photos but no specs. I saw roverconnection.com had them for $955, but shipping was $150-200. Roverconnection did say the rack was 17" above the rain gutter... My family and I camp and ski and really can use the space. I also like the styling and light mounting options. Thanks, John |

I have a D1 with an Adventure Roof rack. Supposedly, the D2 is the same as the D1 version, only longer. The distance from the roof of my D1 to the top of the roof rack in the rear is 9". I hope this helps. Thanks, Mike B. |

John- I have a D2 rack mounted on my 1995 D1. The rack is also nine inches above the roofline. Combine that with RTE 2" springs and 245 size tires and I have given up on ever getting the D1 into the garage. And I've pretty much given up on taking the D1 to the mall garage too (which is good because I hate the mall). Go with the Adventure Rack and don't worry about the garage and leaving it outside (unless you live in a high-rise and you only have garage parking). |

Thanks for the feedback, the reason for I need the garage is that I live in upstate NY and get ALOT of snow and ice. I don't want to hack at the ice every morning. This AM it is 27 degrees! BRRR. I think it may work if I remove some of the trim off my garage, maybe... I just may use the yakima mega warrior from my 88RRC. Thanks again, -John The garage lover... |

John, The yak Mega warrior, if mounted towards the rear of the roof rails (don't know if you have factory cross bars or non, as well as the Yak extension or not...) can be just as tall if not taller that the adventure rack. In fact, I had a Yak mega warrior with extension mounted on my DII for some time prior to getting an Adventure Rack. It was mounted on Thule crossbars and feet (something like slim 401) and it was a good 2-3 inches taller than the adventure rack. I would measure your setup, then roll on down to the dealership and see if they have a stock rig with the rack on it. Measure that too... Good luck! |

Thanks for the feedback. I may have to go rackless On a more humerous note, when I moved to upstate NY two years ago from Sunny Virginia. One of my older neighbors commented on my 88 Range Rover, "I heard those Land Rovers are good in the deep stuff, you should get a plow and earn some extra money on the snowy days". It is very good in the snow, but I'm sure the guys at the LR dealership would laugh me out of the place if I asked them for a snow plow attachment. If you can afford the new $80K RR, you most likely don't plow your own driveway.... I'm sure the guys at Ford didn't consider that option. New cold weather package, bun warmers and snow plow. LOL. |
