Some time ago, my shifter would no longer allow me to shift to a lower gear than three. Thinking it was probably a cable problem and unexplainedly I overlooked even thinking about it in between wheeling trips, it remained this way for several months.

Tuesday I put a new driveshaft on and cleaned some crud from the cable-no dice.

Yesterday I changed the •••••• fluid (got almost five quarts out of the pan!) and as it started to rain as I refilled the •••••• (didn't get to the cooler lines-damned rain!), I sat in the truck running it through the gears... I happened to look down through the hole in the film and saw a rubber band around the shift lever. OK, I'll dump another quart in and look closer. Got back in and found not one, but two Bic micro lighters in the shifter mechanism!

It's really hard to get a lighter out of there!

I now have use of all of the gears available to me.

I wonder if I could find an attorney to take the case to LR to get me some new lighters? John?
Peace,
Paul
