Ok, so today, (past few days) my Disco was making a wierd almost blocked exhaust noise accompanied by sluggish response and an odd noise as well as not accelerating. It sounded almost like a slpping clutch but came from the exhaust. So, I floored it thinking it would blow out the blockage and voila about a minute into flooring it and dropping into third at seventy MPH, BAM a huge grey cloud of smoke is produced and all seems well. What WAS that?!?! I would like to know how to prevent the same and what exactly did I just experience, granted it was REALLY cool looking, but I don't think its completely within the design ideal..

Has anyone been stuffing bananas up your tail pipe?

I would hate to think it could be a catastrophic catalytic converter conflagration. You might want to look for pieces of ceramic in you tailpipe or give the cats a tap with a mallet and see if they rattle.

I really just posted for the banana thing. This is the only vehicle I have ever owned with cats.

no big deal if Cats are blown.. it'll probably improve proformance.. I have pulled my cats out and still passes NYS emissions.. more than 50% of output for cars 7 years or older...

yeah, but its the weird intermittent noise...seems to gurgle a lot more..louder too, and every once in a while all of the sudden its like its blocked, so i floor it and BAM a huge thing of gray smoke and we're flying along like we should be, but its just disturbing that some THING is either in the exhaust being blown out, or some other thing is going on and might need to be addressed..I"m at a loss though.
