A click--click noise.

Sounds like it's coming from right near the air vent area to the right of the steering wheel, maybe just below it. It's possible it's a relay....sounds just like a relay.

My truck is a 98 D1.

The ONLY thing I have done to it recently is remove the bulbs that illuminate the 'ABS' and 'CHECK ENGINE' lights....the AMBER ones(ABS always on and check engine every few weeks). A day or two later, I start hearing this 'CLICK--CLICK'.........silence for about 10 seconds.....the the CLICK--CLICK gig, over and over.

Yeah, I turned up the radio, but I'm selling the rig to my brother-in-law soon, and I don't want to sell him a problem

ANY SUGGESTIONS?? This may be my last post for awhile....so make it a good one.

Thanks folks!!

if it only happens when you're driving it could be a rock stuck inbetween the treads of your tire. happens to me all the time.

You trying to put the cruise control on when this happens?

NO, not a rock. I can CLEARLY hear it within the dash, JUST to the right or JUST below the right air vent.

No, not using cruise control when this happens. Even when I'm idling at a light. I hear the...CLICK--CLICK. Sounds subtle, exactly like a relay. I'm literally just wondering if pulling out the 'CHECK ENGINE' and 'ABS' amber bulbs screwed up some circuit pathway.

A/C relay dropping in and out? Is your "freon" level low?

If you are selling the vehicle to family "without problems", I think you are already past that point! Try putting the bulbs in and see if the noise stops.
The abs warning light could stay on due to a faulty bulb warning relay. Without the bulb in place, the abs system will continue to run its self test and it could be that relay. It is located on the passengers side behind the glovebox. As far as check engine, removing the bulb can put the ecm into default and create other output device issues.
Start with putting one bulb in at a time, and go from there.
