I recently installed 80/100 watt bulbs in my 2001 D2, and really like the extra light - but was wondering if there are any potential problems from running like this. I do not wish to be stranded...

Any experience, good or bad, from doing this? Thanks...

I would get an upgraded harness like the one IPF offers. I don't think the factory wires are capable of the extra draw.

This reminds me that I have some 55/100w bulbs and a harness in my garage that I need to install one of these days :)

the plug/socket that plugs to the bulb will melt in time and if that dosent happen the long term will do in the reflector housing.

I run 70/135 in my scout in hella housings. they make night into day and say dot on the bezel to the medling eyes of officer Dan.

I can't say from experience but I was told that the housing on the D2 will be okay.

I guess I'm not so concerned about "long term" effects on the housing as I am about catastrophic effects on wiring, switch, or an inoppertune blown fuse...

So far (a few weeks, very little night driving, granted) I've noticed no ill effects.

I love the extra light, and I guess could do other options, but I've got a SD model (2001) with no harness to the low-bumper location.

Are there any HID options for standard housing / harness installs? Thanks,

I've run 110/130 IPF bulbs on my stock harness (stupidly!) for about 2 1/2 years now. One of these days it will bite me in the ass, but I just haven't gottent around to ordering the upgrade kit.

The downside is the lamps get very hot and crack easily if they get wet (submerged wet - not rain wet)

But - they are bright!

OK - flame away.......

I just installed the PIAA Extreme Super White bulbs in 55/60 rating. They are a pure white light and give out more useful light than the stock bulbs. They are noticably brighter in a side by side comparison and they don't require upgrading the harness. Also, they are legal on the street as they meet the factory wattage levels. These claim to give the effective output of 125/130 watts. I imagine the IPF bulbs mentioned above are similar as IPF has a bad habbit of advertising their bulbs at a higher wattage than they really run at. Most of their "85 watt bulbs" are really running at 55 watts or so, etc.
