1. I live in a mild climate - Atlanta - use 10w40 all year?

2. Use all Amsoil or combo of that and Dino - what ratio?

3. If you use a Genuine filter - how long on the interval for oil change?

4. Use the flush first?

Disco II with 35K - want to make this truck last 4 ever

I would use series 2000 0w-30 in the winter, and 20w50 in the summer. Change it every 7500 miles while under warranty. Use the flush, it will let the amsoil work better and the filter to last longer, otherwise the first time I would change oil at about 3-5k, to make sure the filter does not clog. If you do not change the oil summer/winter, then use a 10w40. Amsoil has a good customer service line, give them a call if you have any questions.

Import racers refer to Amsoil as "the brown sludge".
It coats your engine internals in gunk after only a few thousand miles.

I'd got with Mobil 1. I don't subscribe to most rice rocket theory, but for my BMW and Landie it's always Mobil 1.

Import racers are also the dolts who run open element air filters unsheilded from the heat of the engine bay....
I ran SCCA auto cross and many, many club events with Amsoil. After 30k on my SHO engine we pulled the top end apart and there was no "Brown Sludge"...

Maybe Import "racers" should keep putting wings on their front wheel drive cars and shut the f%*k up about oil.

Ask any SCCA, BMW CCA, and POC members what they run. Amsoil, Redline or Royal Purple. These are folks who've seen the inside of an engine (not guys whove seen the parts that USED to be inside after a NO2 mishap).

Please....sorry for the rant but I call SPOBI! (Stop Putting Out Bogus Info!)

I think ricers are ridiculous too, I just refrenced them for the source of the name.
I have seen the brown sludge on a japanese car.

no worries...It's just important to realize that if the ricer never changed that amsoil or ran a shit filter or, or or blah, blah, blah, you know what I mean....
Amsoil and Red Line have very high detergent packages so if Amsoil sludged there, just about anything would.

I was thinking about switching from Mobil1 to Amsoil, however the cost increase easily doubles for an oil-change. I simply can't see the utility of the additional expense based on a 3K change interval. Now, if I could go to 6 or 7K oil change interval with Royal Purple or Amsoil, I would consider this, but with 65K on the clock and the amount of off-road duty for my rig, I can't see running longer between changes, thus Mobil 1 prevails.
There seems to be a significant percentage of owners and mechanics and even some professional racers that all feel the frequency of 3K with regular dino-oil is more important than longer intervals with better synthetics such as Amsoil. To keep the 3K interval and use Amsoil, that would be your optimal choice for quality, however the cost is much higher.

To support longer intervals, Amsoil and others make double filtration systems, however again, it may take some time to realize a return on that initial investment for the set-up.

Once you know the costs of the different options, you gotta run the numbers based on your average weekly mileage to make these choices.
