Can somebody please tell me (or give me a link to) the specs of the Disco 1's they use in Camel Trophy events. I really only want to know how much lift they have and what tire size they run. |

7.0x16. That size isn't very common in the US. A 7.5x16 is the "classic" Series Land Rover tire size, which is very close in size to the 235/85R16. The 7.0x15 would be a bit smaller, but I'm not quite sure what would be the closest to it (215/85R16? 225/75R16? Not sure....) They didn't have a lift, per se. The springs were heavy-duty LR springs, which gave a little extra clearance. The big thing that helped was that they cut the rear fenders to keep rubbing on articulation from happening. Best site for info on 'em that I know about is http://www.camel-discovery.com/startpage2.htm Have fun! -L |

Thanks Leslie, I heard that they use 225/75 BFG Mud-Terrains and HD springs which give about 1 inch of lift. I just wanted to make sure. |

Maybe BFG on the later ones, but Michelin XCLs were the ones used at first, then Michelin XZLs. Most people replace the Michelins w/ BFGs, because they do cost less, and are easier to find, and do better on road. FYI, the Thatched Roof Garage has a set of 235/85R16 Michelin XZLs (5 of 'em) in stock.

As far as I know, the only Camel Trophy Disco's with BFG tires fitted were the 1997 Mongolia vehicles. All of the the other CT Disco's I've seen photos of had either the Michelin XCL or the XZL. Tire sizes for the Michelins are always listed at 7.00 R16, but I can't help but question this listing. Here are some pics of the CT Discos: http://www.landroverorlando.org/main/images/cIMG0048.JPG http://www.landroverorlando.org/main/images/cIMG0051.JPG Both trucks have their rear tires very close to touching the rear bumpers. This says 7.50 to me rather than 7.00, as 7.50 XCL's are very slightly shorter in height than BFG 235/85 MT's. I've never even seen a CT Disco in real life though, so that's just a guess. |

i've seen one in person. this one i saw had 7.00R16. real dinky and small. so i conclude that the CT discos had all different tire sizes every year. or, perhaps, the dinky ones i saw were replacements? and the original tires were worn out? but what really matters is, weren't they borrowed discos? |
