Anything important I should now about replacing the alternator in my '95 disco, or is it a pretty straightforward procedure? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Have your radio code handy-otherwise, it is pretty straightforward. Oh yeah, if you're replacing it because it stopped charging, (D'Oh, why else?) make sure the battery is fully charged before trying to start the truck after the swap. If the ECU sees low battery voltage during cranking, it sets non-user resettable codes for the SRS. You may also end up with an ABS fault for the same reason, however, it is less common. These vehicles are highly sensitive to supply voltage variations. |

FYI..Do you know the reason your alt is bad? Another good idea is to check and replace the 5 grounds on your truck.. these weak grounds are a major reason people burn thru alt. The cable might look fine but if you pull them off and inspect them up close you will notice a lot of green dust falling from the under the rubber covers.. these rubber covers tend to hold in any moisture that might get inside and the copper completely corrodes. Just for safety sake.. pull the one ground that goes to battery and chasis.. you'll probably see what I mean.. |

Besides the main ground to battery what are the other four you mention? |

there is another ground from engine to firewall.. on Drivers side.. also 3 more along frame.. the rear most ground is on the pass rear bumper...once you find the 2 in engine bay.. get on a creeper and roll under the truck.. they are pretty obvious.. |
