I was working on my 98 LSE at night with no lights, because my driver's side wheel decided to spin off the lug nuts (that's another story), and when I looked under my hood I saw that the ignition wires looked like a damn landing strip they were glowing so much. The wires looked and felt ok in the daylight, but with the lights out they were obviously causing arcing at every plug and at the distribution block. My new set of Magnecor 8.5mm wires and Bosch Platinum plugs have given a very noticible difference in smoothness and power under load. It also is now dark under the hood. So if you haven't checked your wires in awhile go out at night or keep the lights off in your garage, fire up the Disco and take a peek at both ends of the spark plug wires for glowing. If they're bad your Disco will look like a Disco under the hood. Evan

Evan I am considiering getting a set of Magnecor wires. I have read that the 8.5 wires are a little tight fitting. I was going to get the 8 mm wire because of that. What has been your experience? Thanks Brad 96 Disco, SD 63500miles |

They fit ok. The wire holders mounted on the block will work, but the quad wire holders close to the distribution block will be tight. You can make them work, but it is easier to swing by your local parts store and pick up some bigger ones or just use wire ties. The 8.5mm wires have better insulation if you run a lot of electronics. FYI - don't use wire ties to tie the plug wires together. The idea is to seperate them a bit to prevent any possibility of inductive firing (ie: one cylinder firing due to the charge passing through another wire it passes) The 8.5's will be much happier in all new looms - Summit or any parts store.
