If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it considering I have been abandoned by the LR dealer. Sorry this is so long.... First of all this all started a few months ago when my 96 D1 failed to start. I took it to a local guy who fixes LR's. He monkeyed with the starter a little but gave up when he decided that it was beyond his repair capabilities. He doesn't have the diagnostic equipment the dealer does. Had it flatbedded to a dealer two hours away. The dealer had it for over a month, I went for a visit and found that they had some newbe on it. I was about to lose it when I saw that my dash, doors, console, everything had been removed and wires were everywhere. I left hoping they knew what they were doing. I get the car back, running mind you but started to notice some screwy things going on. My reverse lights don't work, the key comes out in any gear (reverse light inhib, right) well it worked before. The rear wipers only work if the engine is running and the door closed. The cruise is out, my radio is staticy, my rear windows work sometimes if I have my wife beat on the dash near the glove box. It does start all the time now but crap, what about this other stuff. The dealer claims that they can't be held responsible because another mechanic touched it. I'm stumped can anyone help. |

Given that the non-Rover mechanic threw up his hands w/o tearing it apart, and it had the same set of symptoms when it was taken to the Rover dealer, and, you saw it in pieces in the Rover shop, then I would say that a decent attorney should have them nailed.... It shouldn't matter if another mechanic had ever touched it or not, it was brought in for a specific problem, they dissassembled your vehicle, and although they fixed the starting problem they created a passel of new ones. If you think that they can fix it, have an attorney lean on them to do so. If not, then have it fixed by a different Rover shop, and have the attorney get them to cover the costs. IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, yada yada yada..... -L |

"The rear wipers only work if the engine is running and the door closed." This is normal and correct. "my rear windows work sometimes if I have my wife beat on the dash near the glove box" This is the window lift ecu see FAQ on discoweb "The cruise is out" Check vacuum lines. The reverse lights and static see easy enough to fix. Make them take care of it. Thats all. Ron |
