Ticking Noise

I want to a garage and they feed her synthetic oil and the ticking noise was cut in half. But it would come back here and there. The guy told me to trade it in fast because the engine is on it's way out. My warrantee is up and I only have 99k miles. Any suggestions out there?? Please help, because I can't afford another rover.
