The wearer is a 94' D1. Driver drives mostly pavement, snow often but usually plowed snowy roads. Driver occasionally likes to go off road (real offroad but have been avoiding the Rocks till I get protection) :-)
Tire will be the Dunlop RT. D1 is stock except for upgrade to vented rotors with better discs and pads but will be lifted 2" eventually but likely never more than 2".
I love the look of the 235/85's but I tow often as well and amworried about the gearing and power loss. I also drive faster than I should and worry about the Tall 235's rolling over and decreasing my cornering ability. Trimmiing fenders mildly is not a problem for me so I dotn mind doing that.
ANy suggestions, comments, etc. Should I stick with the 245's? Will they be enough when I start chasing you BUILT rigs around.

Todd I have 235/85 RT's and I like them. as for tipping over yes it will be easier with 235's but I have not done it yet on the road (scared me at times) or off. You will only gain approx. 3/4" with 235's over 245's for ground clearance. as for the gearing if you have alot of hills even ones that don't look like it has any slope it can be a pain until you get used to driving with them. I wish I had 4.10 gears I hear it is sweet with 235's.( To many other toys I want) If I were do it over I would have gone with 245's with all the road driving I do.(unless I had 4.10)
If you know anyone that has those tires on thier rig ask them to drive it.
Just my worthless opinion good luck.

Trimming is about the same with either of them, the 245s fit the '99 Disco I had w/o a lift, where the 235s wouldn't have fit w/o a lot of rubbing w/o a lift.

If you can get the 2" lift first, I'd go 235s, but if you can't do the lift first, I'd definitely opt for the 245s.

IMHO, FWIW.....

I have the 245/75's on my '94 Disco which is lifted about 2". I tow fairly heavy loads with my Disco in hilly country and I don't think I would want any larger diameter tires unless I changed the ring an pinion. The stock gear ratio is pretty high for towing anyway. You could always go for an extra set of wheels and use the stock size for towing and use the 235/85's for off-road if you want that size.

I have a 5 speed and 235/85's. slight loss in power, noticable on long slopes at say 60 mph.

Great offroad, not really all that noticable on road, Have had them on now for 6 months and are use to them now, taking corners at the same speed as I use to with the stock size.

Definately need a 2" lift before you go this way.

The most interesting thing is that for once my speed is 100% acurate, as per the RCMP.....

Go for the 235/85s. You will at some point before the 245s wear out regret not having the extra height. Speaking from experience.

would 3/4" extra height of the tire make a lot of difference assuming both have the same lift? No offend intended. Just asking. Thanks

It will when there is a rock 3/4" from bashing something underneath your truck.

Hmmm,
So many responses and opinions, I love it! Where I live its not real rocky though. ANd I tow a lot and cant afford 4.10s. So I think i'm leaning toward the 245/75's for know.
Cant wait. ONe month or so and I'll be set.
Thanks
Todd

ray, that "same lift" is just to open up the wheel wells for tires. has nothing to do with what will come in contact with the diffs/axles (your lowest point). tires are what get you off the ground, not the lift.
