My ABS is doing its thing while driving and braking on a normal dry road. No traction issues at all. I am told it is a bearing that knocked out the sensor??? Any one ever heard of this? |

Do a keyword search over to your left here and you'll come up with all sorts of things for the ABS. I don't know about a bearing knocking your sensor out, but it is most likely a sensor. Very common stuff. You can try and pull the sensors, clean them off, and re-seat them, or you can just do as many others and unplug the damned thing. |

Yep - it can make sense - the exciter ring is on the CV joint and that is what the ABS sensors read - if the bearing in the stub axle goes, I *guess* that the CV joint could start to oscillate and then knock the sensor out. Also -thinking out loud here - if the swivel preload gets way out of whack it could possibly cause it also - but it would have to be pretty bad it seems to do that..... Alternately, it probably is just a bad sensor or one that got knocked out of position. |

Next question: Where do I find a manual that explains this and more important....pictures or drawings so one can make sense of this before dismanting the front end. If some one has something like this, even a copy of a drawing by e-mail will do. Thanks |

Willie, Mine kicks in sometimes when I brake reasonably hard (not VERY hard), although I do have mudders. Its much more than any passenger car I ever had. Are you comparing to other truck/suv types? Dean |

Nope, it is a problem. I too have Yoko MT's but this is when you know for a fact you are not skidding. I have been through the search here on the left and it seems it might be a sensor or else like was suggested, the bearing is done for and is knocking the sensor out of place. It does this in the morning and then the light comes on meaning the system is not working at all. In wich case I do not have this problem the rest of the day, just no ABS. On snow or ice on public roads, you want ABS with MT's.... |

My ABS light came on a couple of weeks back and since then the ABS has started pulsing on dry, firm asphalt intermittently. Same thing, first start of the day - no light. After any bump in the road - even a road reflector - the light comes on and stays illuminated. Is the ABS sensor dismantle, clean and reseat (before I go to Roverland) an easy job? How effective has it been for anyone who's tried it? e |
