When I went last night to check the oil level, I found out that I couldn't unscrew the oil cap off to add oil. The neck its attached to started to unscrew, while the cap was magically bonded to the neck. What am I supposed to do here? Can I unscrew the neck off and add oil that way or am I going to break something? Why didn't Land Rover reverse thread the neck to the valve cover? |

Land Rover didn't reverse the thread because that would make far too much sense! Use a pipe wrench to disconnect the two pieces and loctite the extension piece to the valve cover. Paul |

that happened to me before and all I did was run the engine a bit (or when it was hot I let it cool down) pretty much anything that would cause a bit of a temperature shift always seemed to cause the cap to be able to come off! good luck justin |

So I'm assuming I'm not going to break anything off if I take off the extension piece. Quarky little problems Land Rover loves to give. |

I just unscrewed the whole assembly (no oil comes out or anything) and unscrewed the cap from the stem. Then, I screwed the stem back on with as much force my hands could give. That way the cap is always less binded to the stem than the stem is to the engine. It's worked fine since. |

Jarrod, I had the same problem and used the same fixs mentioned above. Take it all off, take it apart, put it back together piece by piece with locktite where appropriate. I added one more thing though, I put light coating of antiseaze on the cap threads and gasket also. No more problems. Steve |
