I'm doing my Brakes right now on a 94' Disco. Adding spacers to the Calipers with new seals and putting in Vented Rotors. Question is, once I get everything back on there, how do I set the preload. The manual shows a nice device that looks very expensive that measures it very well I'm assuming. I dont have said "expensive device". Is there an easy way, is it a wiggle thing, tighten till it wont wiggle then back off a touch? Just shooting in the dark. Thanks Todd |

are you setting swival bearing preload or wheel bearing preload?the swival bearing preload is set with shims under the upper swival pin.this is set to pulling torque.but if you set it too tight if will cause alot of problems.you dont have to change this setting if you are only doing rotors. |

And if it's the wheel bearing preload, use a tourque wrench, to the specifiec torgque as described in the manual, or a dial indicator (suitable one can be had a Sears for under $50) and set end float to between .008 and .010" The Haynes manual gives the endfloat, I may be off by a couple .001" |

Another option and All-Dadta recomends the same torque the inner nut to 90ft lbs then back it off 45deg, then hand tight until slight restiance is felt add the bend washer and then torque the outer nut to 60ft lbs this will set toe correct preload... |

Thanks, That last option is basically what I did. Slightly different number but basically same procedure. Seems to drive fine so I guess I got it. Thanks Todd |
