I would like to confirm the location of number one cylinder. Could someone please advise where it is by viewing engine from the front bumper end. (Being in Aus and being right hand drive it get confusing when advise says from drivers side) I believe it to be on the pulley end 1st on right as viewed from the bumper, but want to check My 96 Disco runs ok, except at cruising speed there is a little hickup. I connected a timing light to what I believe is number `1 plug wire and the reading on the timing mark was off the pulley markers at approx 26 deg BTDC. AU specs are 2deg BTDC. I reset it to 2 Deg BTDC and it seems to start better and runs o'k. I just need reassurance. I did disconnect the vacuum advance before resetting the timing and the centrifical advance was ok. Also the vacuum advance mechanism attached to the Distributer is it riveted on or are those allen key screws? Mine has a little play and may need tightening. |

You have the position of cylinder number one correct. Most NAS Discos (all that I know of) were distributor less, with the GEMS coil packs. But, I have a '95 with a distributor. Our vacuum advances (mine at least, and at least three others I have worked on) all had standard blade screwdriver slots with 6X40 threads (might have been metric, but 6X40 fit). Paul |
