I know there is some difference between the standard British and standard U.S. tail light configuration. However, I have noticed some strange things with Discoverys in the past. i.e. Mine is a '94 it has a center brake light and brake lights on the rear pillars. It has position lights on the bumper and on the rear pillars. It has turn signal lights on the bumper, but even though there is a place for them, they are NOT on the rear pillars. I have seen other Discoverys of the '94-'96 range that have turn signals on the pillars as well as the rear bumper. I have seen newer models with turn signals on the bumper, but not the pillar. All of them seem to have the rear fog lights, but not sure. And finally, just yesterday I saw a 2003 with position lights on the bumper, but they were not on, even when the driver had headlights and fog lights turned on, he also had turn signals only in the rear pillars, NOT in the bumper. And no brake lights down their either - making the bumper lights completely useless I guess. Personally, I would like to get turn signals in the pillars - easier to see. R.B. I have a 1995 Disco. I had rear turn-signal lights in the bumper only. I was having a problem with the lights filling with mud and shorting out when I went off-road. I did a little investigating and found out that there is a blank receptacle in my stock rear pillar light assembly. Sure enough it was wired to the turn signals. There is a plastic plate in the that must be cut out (but it is obvious where to cut). Once the hole is opened, a lamp assembly (approx. $7 from dealer) fits right in. I took the bumper light assemblies out and put a reflective plate in the cut out. No trouble since. Hope this helps. |

That's good to know. But I still don't understand WHY? So is the empty spot actually wired? I didn't remember it being wired. |

I typed a reply earlier, but the network dropped before it posted.... It's not based on US/British, it's based on year. '94-95 Series I Discos had the turn-signals only in the bumper, not up on the light assembly on the sides beside of the rear door. '96-99 Series I Discos had an orange turn-signal added to the cluster that is up beside the door, in addition to the ones in the bumper. '99- Series II Discos had the rear light assembly shifted up, from waist height, up to eye-height. '03 Disco has changed them a little... I don't know exactly what, though, haven't crawled over one in person. FAIK, all Discos have rear fog lights..... FWIW... -L |
