I have been looking around for a second set of 16" rims to be used for offroading. I have had some difficulty lining up either steelies or alloys up here in Canada. So far it seems the best deals I can find are the 'Stealth' steel rims from AB at about $80 each or a set of refinished used 5 spoke alloys from Roversland in Fla for $50 each. I would have to incorporate shipping for both. Unless I can find a better deal soon up here north of the border where my dollar stretches a little further, do you guys have any suggestions as to which I should go for. Any experiences with the stealth rim? Thanks again for any info. Cheers from up north Jason |

what about American Racing steelies (15" & 16")? Maybe you have a local supplier who will stock those.... |

Think I get those for a Disco II or only the DI bolt pattern? They look pretty nice. Jason |

Damn - I didn't know you had a D2. I dont know whether or not they are making them in that bolt pattern. Maybe Greg Davis or one of those other D2 guys knows... |

I don't think the wheels oferred by Gulf Coast will fit a DII. I've been looking everywhere for an alternative to the AB wheels, and have come up empty. Nathan Crabtree of Discount Rovers is supposedly working with a wheel manufacturer, but nothing has been decided yet. To make matters even worse for me, I'm trying to find some 6" wide wheels. Talk about scarce! I don't even think they exist. |

I thought the DIIs could use Camaro rims as the bolt patterns are "Close enough". Isn't there a picture of a Rover with Camaro rims in the gallery somewhere? I vaguely recollect having seen/heard of this being done. Although, if one uses Camaro rims on their Rover, do they have to have a Mullet hairstyle? Paul |

Paul, they will fit, however someone on this board was using them and said that they seemed a little "soft", meaning they were bending rather easily off-road. Just not made to handle a 5K lb plus vehicle off-road. |

Paul the Camaro BHC is about 2mm off and it will put undue stress on one side of the bolts... That is the reason im not selling DII steel rims like i have for the DI... My wheel vendor will not make them unless i cough 11k for a center stamp... Also has anybody looked into the DOT load rating for those Camaro rims... |

Its the cutter for the big ass punch that stamps the center out of flat plate and then presses it into the shape required all in one operation. Its a cool machine. I have toured there plant and I love the process... Retired machinist thing... |

FWIW, 4.75" = 120.65mm. I don't think that would be an issue, but the strength of the wheels is. |

I was contemplating getting some 16x6 rims and having centers cut from 1/2" plate and then welded in by a race shop that widens wheels, but no one wants to sell just the rim for liability reasons. |

it's very common i hear in australia to take a rim, and burn out the inside and reweld it to whatever back spacing you want. i wonder how many bags of equal it takes to balance that.,... rd |

Hi, I've used the camaro rims and they do "bend" especially under side loads. I am working on a supplier right now to produce wheels in blocks of 25 at a cost of approximately 83+shipping each. If enough people are interested, I can probably get a lower price. standby for more info. You can see photos of the camaro wheels on my DII in the photo gallery under chris urquieta |

Chris, what's the back spacing on those wheels, and how well does the wheel fit over the center hub lip? |

I can't answer the back spacing question. It fits perfectly over the hub and the bolt holes didn't actually touch the studs on the side (but very, very close). The wheel track is narrower than the stock wheels. A lot of guys are running them around Houston (credit goes to Lance Miller for finding them). Most of us put 265/75s on them and the rubbing was minimal with OME spring lift. Specifically, the wheels are 2000 stock camaro steel wheels. |
