I was planning on getting a set of the swamper 34-10.5's. I am curently running 235's and they show no rubbing at all. Aside from a set of gears and probably heavier axels would it take a whole bunch of trimming to accomodate the 34's. Anyone runnning these tires and have pictures? Thanks for input Daniel

There is an XD out there somewhere with a set on it. I saw it at Uwharrie this past summer. Looks like a good tire size.

I'm running them, but not on a Disco. I have stock axles and stock gearing. Works fine for me.

This helps a little to know I am not trying to do something that absouluty nobody has done yet. Also good to hear that the stock components are holding up decent. I would really like to see a pic of a truck fitted with these tires first but it might just have to be mine.

I believe the guy in the yellow disco in my gallery is running the 34" swampers. Not sure of the lift he has though.

Perrone:
Aren't you even running ten spline axles (at least in the diff that doesn't have the locker)? If so, this is an even stronger endorsement, isn't it?

the 34x9 on a nato rim is a sweet combo, not anything i would run on the street but if you want a swamper that will fit with little trimming... also consider moving the rear axle back 1/2" to 3/4" to preserve the rear door.

Thanks for all the help I guess I will just have to buy them and figure out exactly what I need after I get them on.

how do you move the rear axle back

perrone your 34's are on a RRC
are the stock axles stronger than a disco's stock axles?

aftermarket rear links and a spacer for the rear A-arm. Rovertym makes both of these and a few people on this board have them, one guy is running 33's with a 3 inch lift I believe.

I do not know about others trucks but I would not be able to move my axle back. the diff guard rubs on the gas tank as it is. so you may want to check

Once you move the rear axle back, kiss the diff guard goodbye.

Blake - Here's how.

Could also just get the ECR flares and cut away. That would work too.

My 34s are on a RRC. The rear is stock 24 spline just like in a Disco. My front is 10 spline original. I don't rock-crawl, and I don't abuse my truck. If you have a heavy right foot, or get yourself into high torque stuations, then invest in stronger axles.

I have pics of the truck of you're interested in seeing them.

Enjoy.

:)

Thanks for the Kudos. I've had those Bias Ply tires up to about 84 mph on the highway, and I have yet to see why people are scared to run Bias Plys.

The ride quality is just fine. They have a low pitched hum which is more quiet than the tires I took off, they grip the road like glue, and although I haven't siped them, they work great in the wet. If you've ever been to Florida, you'll understand when I say wet weather performance is important.

However, they are heavy, and they are hard to balance perfectly. I get a vibration between 72 and 76, but it's no biggie.

Just kidding...

Eric, ECR doesn't offer the DI flares any longer. They had such a limited interest that they stopped production after just four or five sets. So, unfortunately, the ECR flares are not an option.

I believe ECR only imported them from Rangie Spares in Australia.

Neil, that may be so. However, it seems like the owner (or co-owner) of ECR (I think his name is Mike) was posting here while the DiscoTech was being built and I thought he said that these were a little different and were their design. I could be mistaken though.

Greg, I talked to them on the phone two months ago and they told me that they would sell me the flares and that they were getting more in about 4 weeks.. I haven't called them back yet. If I remember correctly they wanted about $325 or so for the whole kit. I'll get in touch with them again and see. I might just order a set and hold onto them for when I want to use them.

Hey Perrone,

You might want to try out some Equal in those new sneakers as it might smooth things out even more.

Hmmm. I guess they ended up getting enough interest. I didn't think that they had given it enough time. That's good to know as I have a friend with a DI who was interested in them. Thanks for the info Eric.

Ya, I'll shoot them an email when I get home and ask them again. I'm going to get a set so I'll let you know for sure when they reply back to me. I'll shoot you an email.

ECR does not make or have any flares left. DAP now sells them for a miserable $549. I have spoken with both DAP and ECR. I would like some and I think the only way to get them for cheaper would be to get a bunch of folks together and make a group buy.

or get them from austrailia like was mentioned earlier....

550$!!!

Then I think I'll be ordering from Austrailia directly.

Is this address the one we should go to in order to make the order from Austrailia?

Yup, James is right, I sent ECR and email yesterday with the email that they had sent me asking them if they had any flares and I got an email today from DAP saying they sell them now but "Due to limited availability and high shipping/duty costs, we will offer the
flares on a special order basis" the price went from 325+ shipping from ECR to 549+ shipping from DAP.. Ouch..

those flares are ugly anyway.

IMHO

there is a mack truck flare that fits the econodyne series that would with a little trimming fit a d1 pretty nice.

plus the mounts would be hidden not looking tacked on like those ECR ones

check out mid and heavy weight truck flares there are a bunch that would with a little igenuity look really cool on a disc and buy you some big width for those jeeper meats

JC Whitney makes fender flares, sellsit by the roll in differing widths. This is soft and flexible and easy to install and cheap to replace and looks good.

have bought the JC Whitney ones there ok but kinda light duty...the real truck ones are like a half inch thick and once you get them in place they really hold there shape.

check out the by the roll ones on the back of a UPS truck thats what I'm talking

also the ones on mack trucks are molded and dont come by the roll. they could be cut removing some of the center top part and having the split at the rear door edge youd be good to go

Ya, but, the thing that I liked most about the flares that ECR was selling is that they send you the parts to patch up the chunk of the door that you have to take out. Some thing that I don't think the other flares are going to do.

ok eric I know you want jeeper meats so why not pitch the cutting the door idea all togather.

scrap the shitty plastic fuel tank in favor of a steel one with a integrated skid sheild and about 4" less area behind the diff, by losing a couple inch's of ground clearence the tank could be like a 25 to 30 gallon.

plus then you could move your axle back like 3 inch's buying you plenty of room without having to butcher the rear doors.

and you'd get better departcher angle as a bonus

just a thought
