My friend in his 00 Disco II went to the dealer with a rear hub leaking onto his brake pads. While replacing the hub the tech noticed the rear diff had water in it. He was told that a new rear vent tube was installed in his truck under warranty due to a bulletin out for water entry. The gear lube change was covered also. Upon our inspection the new breather runs up to about the mid-point of the LR tail lamp vs the original location on another Series II(a 01 I think) that had it located near where the body meets the frame. Thought this could be used by others and no, he did not know the bulletin number but I saw the new parts on his truck |

There's a How To article on disco2.com about doing this. I did it last month and it was really easy. Cost me $1.50 at Home Depot for the tubing. The how to article says to run it into the engine compartment up near the bonnet (like the other breathers from the front axle, etc). http://www.disco2.com/howto/how-offroader/how-axlebreather/how-axlebreather.phtml There was some discussion somewhere that the dealers would do this mod for free. I guess that's because of the bulletin. |
