I have a '97 D1 and for a year now my cruise control had been acting intermittently - sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not, always unpredictable. I read this board constantly waiting for someone to tell me how they fixed the same problem (and I saw it posted many times). After my most recent long trip, I angrily said f**k it and ordered a new ECU (about $175). This fixed the problem entirely. The reason for the post is my suspicion that most cruise problems are related to the ECU, even though you are welcome to troubleshoot the wiring harness until you are vomiting blue stuff.

Oddly, however, the old ECU was missing one of the nuts that secured it and the other nut was loose. This allowed the ECU to vibrate around in the dash and actually have dents and scratches. This made me wonder because I bought my Disco new. Like I said, IMHO, the ECU might be the cause of a great many cruise problems.

"The reason for the post is my suspicion that most cruise problems are related to the ECU"

Most are vacuum problems, then the ECU or even the pump.
